Holidays
The nursery will close for one week over Christmas and one day a
year for the annual outing during which we invite parents, staff, and
children, fees will be paid at the normal rate.
Parents who take their children on holiday will be required to pay
their child’s fees prior to their holiday.
The nursery will also be closed for two additional days throughout the
year for staff training.
Toilet training
We would like the nursery and parents to work together to encourage
your child to become potty trained. During this process, accidents
will happen and therefore we would appreciate it if parents could
send along sufficient changes of clothing.
Birthdays
The nursery will celebrate your child’s birthday. This takes place at
teatime and we do ask parents to provide a cake for the celebration.
Meals
All the children’s meals are planned with our cook. We aim to provide
meals that add to a well balanced diet. Parents can view the menu in
their child’s group room.
Clothing
You are required to dress your child in a clean, orderly manner in
clothes suitable for play, bearing in mind the various tactile activities
the children will be involved in throughout the day. Please label
everything.
Even though aprons are used sometimes, accidents do happen and
glue or paint may get on to their clothing. We recommend that they
do not wear their new or best clothes.
Behaviour Management
As a team we encourage positive behaviour amongst the children. This
takes the form of sharing, taking turns and playing co-operatively.
We encourage respect for each other, the equipment and the
environment. We praise good behaviour; boosting self-esteem and
making the child feel good about themselves and what they can
achieve.
If a child were acting disruptively we would communicate clearly,
therefore trying to avoid tantrums cause through frustration. In
occurrence of this we would remove them from the situation and give
them an activity, which is appropriate to their development.
Children who find it difficult to play and relate to the other children
would be given one to one with each member of staff until the child
is able to adjust.
Hygiene
We ask parents to provide their child/ren with:
- 1. A wash bag with a flannel, toothbrush and toothpaste.
- A spare change of clothes.
- A plastic apron for tactile/creative activities.
- A sleeping bag (if your child sleeps at nursery).
- Pair of slippers/indoor shoes.
Every item is to be clearly labelled and wash bags will be sent home
at the end of each week.
Children with long hair should be sent with either hair clips or hair
bands.
If your child/ren’s ears are pierced they must only wear studs and
not looped earrings.
The nursery will not take responsibility for any loss of personal
possessions taken to nursery.
Settling Period
You will be expected to spend an agreed settling in time with your
child. There is no time limit on this process. After your child has
attended the nursery for 3 months, you will have the opportunity to
meet with their Key Worker and discuss their progress one on one.
Accidents
If a child has an accident while at King Fishers we will record the
accident details, tell you what procedures we have taken and the
nature of the injury. A copy of the entry in the accident book is given
to parents to sign.
Sickness
When a child becomes ill at Nursery every effort will be made to
contact the parent/carer and request that they collect their child as
soon as possible. A member of staff will comfort and care for the sick
child until the child’s parent/carer arrives to take them home.
Staff will also need to discuss procedures with parent of children who
require daily medication or for their condition to be monitored (e.g. if
the child has asthma) or who suffer dangerous reactions to e.g. nuts
or bee/wasp stings.
Children pass diseases easily to playmates and their families. To
protect your child and your family from more serious illness, please
comply with the following:
-
If your child has a temperature do not send them to nursery.
- If your child has vomited since the previous evening.
- If your child has diarrhoea or within 24 hours of the last bowl
movement.
- We will telephone yourself or your emergency contact should your
child become unwell or need medical attention.
- If your child is absent due to illness please inform the manager on
the first day of illness by 9.30am.
- Nursery fees are still payable throughout any period your
child has been absent due to illness.
If your child is unwell, please notify the Nursery on the first day of
absence. In the case of illness, please do not send your child to the
Nursery. Allow at least 24 hours to ensure your child is free from
infection such as:
- Sickness and diarrhoea
- Ear Infection
If your doctor has prescribed antibiotics, please also allow 24 hours
before the return of your child to the Nursery.
In the event of a serious accident/illness requiring urgent medical
attention, staff will operate the following procedure:

-
Another member of staff will inform the Nursery Manager or
Deputy Manager and a recognised First Aider. Please see the
Parents Notice Board for the list of qualified First Aiders.
-
One person will telephone for an ambulance and the parent(s)/
carers. It may be appropriate to transport the child directly to the
hospital.
-
If the ambulance arrives before the child’s parent(s)/carers,
the staff member who has been looking after the child should
accompany him/her in the ambulance.
- All accidents/incidents must be recorded in the Accident/Incident
Book, stating the time and nature of the incident, the action taken
and other witness accounts.
- As soon as possible the parent/carer should sign the Accident/
Incident Book. The Nursery Manager will check details of the
Accident/Incident recording before asking the parent/carer to
sign the book.
-
The Inspection and Quality Assurance Unit will be notified within
24 hours of any accident to children requiring hospital attention.
-
Accidents/incidents that do not require medical attention will always be reported to parents on the day that they happened.
